Pianist Rita McIntyre is an accomplished
vocalist, pianist and organist. She is the
Director of Music Ministries at Cross in the
Woods in Indian River.
Originally from L'Anse, MI, she began playing
piano at the age of 3 and by the time she was
12, was singing and playing regularly at her
church and school. She studied piano, voice and
piano pedagogy at Baldwin-Wallace College
Conservatory in Berea, Ohio and some graduate
studies in voice at the Cleveland Institute of
Music. She has sung under Christoph von
Dohnanyi, Leonard Slatkin, Valdmir Ashkenazy,
and Robert Shaw. She has also sung in several
Early Music ensembles, performing repertoire of
composers from Josquin to Bach.
McIntyre has served as music director at
Burt Lake Christian Church, and has been music
director at St. Mary of the Assumption parish in
Charlevoix where she still teaches music. She
also teaches piano in both Charlevoix and Indian
River. She is married to the Rev. Glen McIntyre
and lives in Burt Lake.
