My Father's Love

The next LTCS concerts will be Saturday April 21, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Petoskey and Sunday April 22, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Cross in the Woods National Shrine in Indian River. The concerts will be presented under the musical direction of Dr. Tim Hendrickson with Rita McIntyre as accompanist.

From "smoking hot" to "like a renaissance motet," Wendel Werner's choral interpretation of Ed Lantzer's mosaic wood panels has it all.  The choral work, My Father's Love, commissioned by LTCS in 2009, celebrates six of the impressive panels created by Lantzer which depict significant events in the Bible: "Creation," "Adam and Eve," "Moses," "The Birth," "This Is His Son," and "The Crucifixion."  Three of the pieces are accompanied by strings, brass and woodwinds.  "Moses" is sung a capella in rap-like style, while "Adam and Eve" and "The Birth" are accompanied on piano.  Lantzer used half-inch diamond-shaped wood pieces to create his more than thirty 4' X 8' wooden panels.  Werner refers to this diamond motif with the tune "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" heard in "The Birth."

The concerts will  also be an innovative multi media event in which photographs of the panels "in synch" to the music, will be shown on an overhead screen.

The Petoskey News Review on June 24, 2008, described Lantzer's work as transcending the boundaries of art.  LTCS has now expanded that concept to the enrichment of art with choral music.

To round out the concert, "Worth is the Lamb That Was Slain" from Handel's Messiah will be performed.

Tickets will be available on March 27, 2012 at the Chambers of Commerce in Petoskey and Charlevoix, and from LTCS members. Advance sale tickets are $10 Adults, $5 students and children 12 and over. Tickets at the door are $12 Adults, $6 students and children 12 and over.
